Landscape: The lawn, trees, and flowerbeds will be young and just starting to take root in a newly built home. Impart a personal touch by adding some of your favorite plants and flowers to the mix. You and your family can pick out a sapling at the local nursery and enjoy watching it grow through the years and warmly reflect on the memory of tree planting day.

Whether it’s a weekly BBQ, inviting folks over for Friday night football, or hosting a wine and cheese party: the social connections will help to make everyone feel at home as new friendships are built and old friendships are strengthened. 

Take Your Time

I am reminded of a scene from the 1982 film “The World According to Garp”. A young couple and their real estate agent are standing outside in the driveway, shortly after viewing a colonial home. A small aircraft crashes into the second floor. The pilot emerges, unscathed, and politely asks to use the telephone. The gentleman turns to the agent and says “We’ll take it”! The real estate agent and his wife look puzzled. He answers by saying, “The odds of another plane hitting this house are astronomical. We’ll be safe here!”
